Training & Capability
We develop capability from apprentices taking their first steps into the industry through to experienced project professionals and whole organisational teams. Recognised nationally as ECITB SME of the Year 2025.
Overview
Overview
Our own new entrants learn through scenario-based training built from real but desensitised project data. They spend months building a work breakdown structure, developing a schedule and working through risks and progress updates before any client placement.
That approach earned Herne the ECITB Small/Medium Employer of the Year award in 2025, and our project controller Lewis White was named ECITB Apprentice of the Year 2024.
We bring the same practical focus to capability development for client teams and organisations.

Questions
Common questions.
Do you offer apprenticeships?
Yes. We run project controls and quantity surveying apprenticeships with structured support through to End Point Assessment. The programme is led by Lewis White, ECITB Apprentice of the Year 2024, who came through the route himself.
How do new entrants gain experience where security clearance limits access to projects?
We built internal scenario-based training using real but desensitised project data. New entrants build a work breakdown structure, develop a schedule and work through risks and progress updates before a client placement.
Do you place apprentices on client projects?
Yes. Once trained, apprentices support client projects, and we place them on projects at no cost to our clients.
What is Learning from Experience?
Learning from Experience captures what worked, and what did not, so it can inform future work. For a UK decommissioning operator we captured 25 years of fleet-wide ponds decommissioning knowledge in a report that now informs future pond decommissioning.
