Problem
A major UK decommissioning operator faced losing 25 years of ponds decommissioning knowledge. Experienced personnel were retiring mid-programme and there had been no fleet-wide capture of Learning from Experience, just as the next generation of plants prepared to come offline.
Intervention
We mobilised a team specialising in programme management, engineering and leadership to assess the position across nine stations, interviewing personnel with ponds decommissioning experience across the fleet and deep-diving historical drawings, photographs and reports.
Outcomes
- A 250-page report citing each station, fleet-wide challenges, technologies deployed and top lessons learned
- A complete register of technologies by station, decommissioning phase and supplier, fully referenced to source documentation
- Delivered two days ahead of programme and under budget, with all work accepted: no concessions, compensation events or variations
- The report now stands as the body of knowledge informing future pond decommissioning across the fleet and at future sites
