The Herne Group has been named Small/Medium Employer of the Year at the ECITB ECI Training & Development Awards, presented by category sponsor NUVIA at Glaziers Hall, London.
The award recognises our commitment to developing talent through training, mentoring and hands-on project experience, and the measures we have taken to overcome the barriers an SME faces in the highly regulated nuclear sector.
Training before exposure
Security clearances and limited access to client projects restrict the opportunities open to new entrants. So we built internal scenario-based training using real but desensitised project data. New entrants spend months building a work breakdown structure, developing a schedule and working through risks and progress updates before a client placement, and we place apprentices on projects at no cost to our clients.
As the company has grown, we’ve been able to support projects in a different way, which has allowed us to bring our new entrants on quicker… we can get them in front of our clients, we can get them supporting on projects, and that gives them hands-on experience nice and early.
